Red 7 is an unbalanced card counting system that sits between Hi-Lo and KO in design. It counts red 7s (♥ and ♦) as +1 and black 7s (♠ and ♣) as 0, using this "half-7" imbalance to eliminate the need for a True Count conversion.
Balanced systems like Hi-Lo require dividing Running Count by remaining decks to get True Count. Red 7 counts only red 7s, adding a net +2 per deck (since 2 of the 4 sevens per deck count as +1), creating a moderate imbalance that lets the RC itself reflect deck depth for direct decision-making.

Compared to Hi-Lo, Red 7 differs only in how 7s are handled: Hi-Lo counts all 7s as 0, while Red 7 counts red 7s as +1. This requires only identifying the suit of 7s to apply different decision thresholds on top of a Hi-Lo foundation.
IRC (Initial Running Count)
Because Red 7 is unbalanced with +2 extra per deck, a 6-deck shoe has +12 total extra. To give RC thresholds consistent meaning across deck counts, IRC = -2 × number of decks is used, giving IRC = -12 for 6 decks. This places RC near 0 when the shoe is roughly half dealt — the typical advantage pivot point. The app's Red 7 training mode supports setting a starting RC.
Red 7 achieves closer decision accuracy to Hi-Lo than KO while still skipping True Count conversion, because it uses a smaller imbalance (+2 per deck vs KO's +4). The trade-off is needing to track 7 suit colors, adding a small tracking burden.

These deviations follow the Red 7 index spec used in this app, using RC thresholds directly without TC conversion. IRC affects the RC starting value and therefore when deviations trigger; adjust it in the app settings based on your actual deck count.
